This position is responsible for managing and coordinating, in conjunction with Materials Department personnel in the West Allis office, the materials acquisition function, primarily but not exclusively for jobs being manufactured at our facility in Tijuana.

  • Project initiation:
    • Attend handoff meeting and review drawings and specifications to become familiar with material requirements, including long lead time materials and log procurement requirements
    • Evaluate opportunities for value engineering and use of substitute materials to satisfy project demands at lower cost
    • Initiate finish sample process, including writing FSR’s, procuring sample materials, and maintaining Tracker
  • Materials Workflow Management:
    • Receives and reviews all incoming drawings from engineering and then facilitates them to material takeoff clerks for processing
    • Coordinates workload capacities with the Milwaukee materials department; utilizes the Milwaukee materials staff to control any bottle necks that occur between departments
    • In coordination with Milwaukee purchasing personnel, directs and supervises preparation of purchase orders for lumber, sheet goods and common items
  • Buyouts:
    • Drafts purchase orders for buyout items (e.g., ornamental metal)
    • Prepares packages for RFQ’s for submission to vendors
    • Negotiates terms with buyout vendors
    • Develops new vendor relationships
    • Monitors and updates Tracker with information regarding buyouts
    • Maintains budgets on all buyouts
    • Provides feedback to Estimating Dept. on vendor availability, pricing and performance
  • San Diego Warehouse:
    • Accountable for the everyday functions of the warehouse and the needs of the warehouse
    • Accountable for the incoming and outgoing of material from the warehouse
    • Manage crossing of material into and out of Mexico, including managing outside broker
  • Previous experience in the millwork industry is preferred
  • Ability to understand other building industry disciplines
  • Ability to read blueprints and architectural drawings required
  • Ability to keep current on contemporary materials and processes
  • Working knowledge of custom millwork fabrication and subcontracting practices within the construction industry
  • Ability to lead a team in a collaborative manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in problem solving/analysis
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, organize, and implement alternate solutions to challenges
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times
  • Internet savvy with competence in Microsoft Office applications. Strong MS Excel proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Leadership Skills: team motivation, conflict resolution, problem solving, and team communication
