Overview

The objective of this position is to complete shop drawings assigned with accuracy and on a timely basis. Drawings will be compliant with the quality standards of AWI and Glenn Rieder / Quality Cabinet. The drawings shall be of sufficient detail to determine compliance with design intent and quality grades specified.

Project Tracker responsibilities: Continually update comments/open issues column to current status.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
• Have a proven ability to detail moderately difficult items 3 dimensionally
• Consistently produce complete and accurate drawings, BOM, parts and assemblies that meet the needs of dependent departments (Piece-Billing, Material Take Off, Shop, Project Management, Installation)
• Work demonstrates an understanding of 3D part modeling to be used on the CNC
• Work shows competence in the areas of drafting, millwork constructability, other various materials, and coordination with the field and other trades
• Work demonstrates an understanding of millwork fabrication techniques and related trades
• Completes work with efficiency and quality

Added responsibilities:
• Participation in meetings, both operations & design
• Coordinate the efforts of either in-house and/or outsource drafting vendors as the department director or Project Lead Detailer requires
• Proven track record of adhering to drafting guidelines and check-lists
• Ability to provide training to Junior Detailers
• Responsible for giving input to Director of Engineering and Estimating department regarding value engineering
• Support your Project Lead Detailer
• Produce submittal ready shop drawings which satisfy the project requirements, the company’s needs / standards, & AWI grade requirements through the use of AutoCAD software
• Responsible for maintaining integrity of shop drawings files
• Read and interpret design documents, both architectural and interior design drawings and specifications
• Read and coordinate with documents of related trades. This including kitchen equipment, structural, lighting, passage door frame and hardware, owner equipment
• Maintain drafting schedules for both submittals and release of drawings for fabrication
• Understand scope of work as it relates to items being drawn. Interpret estimating documents as compared to design and note discrepancies to director
• Understand and communicate the need for information required to updated and release shop drawings for fabrication
• Revise previously authored shop drawings up to and including releasing drawings for fabrication.
• Be attentive to details required for design approval as well as fabrication
• Understand Glenn Rieder / Quality Cabinet fabrication methods, and depict those methods on the shop drawings
• Uphold the drafting standards of the department
• Maintain documentation of projects by updating drawing and work order status logs

Primary interactions:
• Report to Director of Engineering
• Required to work as a team member and coordinate details on multiple projects running simultaneously
• Communicate with stock-billing on methods of fabrication and related drawing revisions
• Communicate with the Materials Specialist regarding material limitations and take-offs
• Communicate with shop liaison for fabrication technique
• Communicate with Project Coordinator on finishes & materials and detail accordingly
Other possible responsibilities:
• On site field measuring
• Use of Inventor software to produce shop drawings
• Use of Revit software for BIM coordination as projects dictate

Qualifications

Display a mastery of drafting in Inventor or Solidworks latest version
• Ability to produce 2d flat patterns of complex curved shapes
CNC programming is a plus
• Degree in Architectural Drafting or related field is a plus
• MINIMUM 3 YEAR previous experience in modeling architectural millwork and/or store fixtures
• Previous experience working in millwork shop is preferred
• Ability to understand other building industry disciplines
• Ability to read blueprints and architectural drawings
• Ability to keep current on contemporary materials and processes
• Working knowledge of custom millwork fabrication and subcontracting practices within the construction industry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Experience with MS Excel a plus
• Working knowledge of Bluebeam a plus
• Strong ability to communicate ideas through shop drawings
